How to Find the career of your dreams and live the life you love

Moving Forward in Your Career of Choice

1. Find out what and how other successful people in your career of choice have 'done it' and model their success.

Just like the basic recipe of successfully baking a cake remains constant, the only changes are the various slight innovations that are done to it for different types. So once you know your chosen career path, you then need to find out about how other successful people have done it, and what they did to get where they are today... You are at an advantage here because you already have a huge knowledge base of past experiences, mistakes and solutions to draw upon.

So don't waste your time and energy  trying to re-invent the 'wheel'. The true way of moving forward is by building upon what already exists and not by tearing down current structures and starting over from scratch. What is it that they have that you don't have... get it. What is it that they did to get where they are... do it. You can find this information easily on the internet, by reading trade specific magazines, books, attending conferences or even by direct networking and asking the right questions.

2. Find mentors to guide you along the way...

These should be people who are experts in your chosen career and have 'been there, done that'. You can do this by finding individual mentors or by becoming members of professional circles or societies in your career of choice. Get your work critiqued by these experts, and adjust your sails as needed. You will find that most successful people are quite happy to answer questions about their chosen careers, to critique your work or even guide you along the way. If you cannot find a suitable mentor, consider hiring a professional coach in your career of choice. You could even get started by reading 'How-to-do-it' manuals by your chosen mentors.

3. Be innovative.
Use your creative genius to answer questions about how you can make the process in your chosen career even better. How can you make a better widget? or how can you offer better services? What can you do over and above the existing norms to give your business or career that winning streak.

4. Break down your big career dreams into several smaller bite sized goals. Prioritize these goals creating numbered 'to-do lists'. Take each item on your list and do the best you can. Then move on to the next item on your list and the next, until you have crossed out the whole list. You will discover that by doing each individual small item well, you will end up making a master piece of the entire 'bigger picture'.

5. Pay special attention to your personal development... Read books, listen to behavior modification tapes and cd's, take care of your health, take care of yourself. For your business or career to grow and evolve successfully, you need to be able to grow along with it to be able to keep pace with it and not fall far behind.

6. Remember your aim in launching into your dream career, is not just to make money or to make waves, but also to enjoy the process and live the life of your dreams.

You don't want to earn wealth only to be able to pay huge medical bills at the end of your days or to have prosperity in retirement...

Yes, unfortunately, the major goal of a lot of 'working class' people today is only to be able to have enough for a comfortable retirement. So you need to take excellent care of yourself right now...

Pay attention to your personal development; pay attention to your health; pay attention to the living of your life and healthy enjoyment with your family and friends right now. Most successful people balance their routines between career, personal development and living life... and that's why they are successful.
